Winfred Grimes

Winfred E. Grimes, Jr., age 82, of Copperas Cove passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015 in Copperas Cove. Graveside Services will be at 10 AM on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple and a Memorial Service will follow at 10 AM, Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 2920 South FM 116 in Kempner.

Winfred was born on September 1, 1932 in Temple, Texas to the late Winfred and Ethel Campbell Grimes. Winfred graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1949 and in 1953 he graduated with a Bachelor in Agriculture from Texas A&M and later earned his Master’s Degree from Missouri State University. Winfred joined the United States Air Force 1953 and retired after serving for 20 years in 1973 as a Captain. Winfred enjoyed a second career as an elementary teacher working for the Copperas Cove and Killeen School Districts. He married Clara Kemp on September 4, 1966 in Jacksonville, Missouri. His Christian faith was always an important part of his life. He was baptized into Christ when he was 12 years old and was a pillar in Southern Hills Baptist Church.

Winfred was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Sue Roberts.

Winfred is survived by his wife, Clara Grimes; son, Winfred Dean Grimes and wife, Kristie; grandchildren, Stephanie and Tasha; several great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Southern Hills Baptist Church at 2920 S. FM. 116, Kempner, TX. 76539. Scott's Funeral Home of Copperas Cove is in charge of arrangements.
