William "Bill" Merritt, 78, of Copperas Cove passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2014. Graveside services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Bill was born on April 8, 1936, in Kodak, Tennessee, to the late James Lester Merritt and Ruby Huffaker Merritt Webster. He attended school in Sevier County, Tennessee, and later attended Central Texas College, following which he became a nationally certified auto mechanic. Bill joined the Army National Guard and later went into active duty. During his 22 years of service, he served two tours in Vietnam. At retirement, his rank was E-8 (Master Sergeant). After retirement, he enjoyed helping neighbors and friends with auto and other repairs.
Bill is survived by his wife, Elfriede Merritt; sister, Dianne May and husband, Robert; nieces, Melissa May and Jennifer Pickwell and husband, Matthew and their daughter, Elsie Kate.
