Wanda Jean Bessent

Wanda Jean Bessent, 88 passed away September 9, 2017 in Lampasas. She was born October 25, 1928 in the Sloan Community of San Saba County to George Barrom and Thelma Langham Yarbrough. She married Willard Gorman Bessent in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1989. Being the oldest of 8 children, she worked hard helping her dad on the Sloan Sisters Ranch where they lived and worked. When she was in her 30’s, she decided to go to nursing school and graduated in 1963. She worked in this field until she was in her 70’s, retiring from Sid Peterson in Kerrville. She suffered a stroke in 2007 and her health began to deteriorate. Wanda was a wonderful Mother, doing whatever she could to help her children. She was also a fantastic cook and no one ever left her house hungry. She also loved to fish and hunt and went on several hunting trips to Colorado where her family got to enjoy her camp cooking.   She is survived by 2 Sons; Ronnie and wife Waunice of Lometa, Keith and wife Christine of San Saba; 2 daughters, Nita Harris and husband John of Nix and Vicky Geisler and husband Roger of Pana, IL 6 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 2 great-grandsons One brother and 3 sisters   She was preceded in death by her son, one grandson, a sister and by 2 brothers.   The family is honoring her request to be cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.   Memorials may be made to the Jon Bessent Memorial Scholarship Fund 215 Ester Resa Lometa, TX 76853 or the charity of your choice.
