Virgil Vaughn Vann, 88, of Lampasas, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 2 pm.
Vaughn was born on April 21, 1935, in Bell County, TX to Leslie Lee Vann and Ora Viola (Carpenter) Vann. Vaughn married Jo Ann Rainwater on July 4, 1957. He served in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic. After returning from overseas in the military, he worked at Fort Hood in electrical powerline construction. He moved the family to Odessa, TX, where he worked for 36 years in the oil field. He moved from roughneck to a drilling foreman, looking after multiple rigs in the West Texas area. After retirement, he returned to Lampasas, TX where he enjoyed farming and ranching until his passing.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dominoes, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed family reunions, family gatherings, and vacationing with his wife and grandchildren.
Vaughn believed in a hard work ethic, being a man of your word, serving others, and always returning things in better condition than when you borrowed them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Vann (Rainwater); his parents; his brothers, John Vann, Lee Vann, Lynn Vann, Dale Vann, and sister, Fannie Mae Hill (Louis).
Survivors include his children, Tony Dewayne Vann (Anita) and Leah Denise Thornton (Weldon), and his sisters-in-law, Faydell Vann, Lynette Vann and Marianne Scarborough; his grandchildren, Nick Thornton (Rosie), Kayla Meadows (Mark); his great-grandchildren, Hunter Lynn Thornton, Mia Trujillo, Mateo Trujillo, Jeremiah Vann Meadows, Dylan Rae Meadows and Leah Michelle Meadows.
