Vardi A. (Robinette) Dyer, a longtime resident of Lometa, passed away on Sept 19, 2018, of natural causes in Houston, Texas. Her body will be interred next to that of her husband in a graveside service at the Lometa Cemetery on Tuesday, September 25. Born on January 11, 1934 in Brownsville, Texas, Vardi (known to family and friends as Bobbie) received a degree in Education in 1955 from what was then Southwest Texas Teacher’s College in San Marcos. In 1959, she married Robert Dyer who was stationed at the Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio where she taught kindergarten. As the wife of an Air Force officer, she cared for their four children when he was assigned to missions in Korea and Vietnam, and she also brought the family to Japan where their third child, Adele, was born. After Lt. Col Bob Dyer retired from the Air Force in 1973, the family moved from Tampa, Florida back to Lometa, Texas where she resumed her teaching career at West Oaks elementary, currently known as Kline Whitis Elementary. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teaching Society and touched many lives as a third grade teacher. Her class repeatedly won awards for perfect attendance, perhaps a testament to their enjoyment of her class. In retirement, she volunteered her time as a reader at her Catholic Church, giving communion to the sick, and caring for elders at the local nursing home. She was an avid reader, gardener, a creative explorer of arts and crafts, and most of all, she loved being near her children and four grandchildren. Bobbie Dyer was a strong woman who courageously followed her husband during his military career, cared for their children when he was on missions, and followed him to his hometown, where she learned to love the country living and her ranch home built by her husband. She was proud of her career as a teacher and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was predeceased by Bob Dyer, her devoted husband of 56 years. She is lovingly remembered by her children Theresa, Robert, Adele, Martha, her son-in-law Joe, her grandchildren Michael, John, Claire, and Helen, and other relatives and friends. Visitation and Rosary will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 9:00 am, at Good Shepherd Church of Lometa, Texas. Immediately following will be the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, also at Good Shepherd Church. Fr Paul Hudson will be presiding.
