Tony Gamez, 68, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 9, 2024, at his home in Lampasas, TX.
The Knights of Columbus of St. Mary will pray a Holy Rosary on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 6 p.m. at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Visitation will follow until 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Tony was born on December 17, 1955, to Juan and Maria De Jesus Gamez in San Antonio, TX. Tony enjoyed his childhood with his large and loving family in San Antonio. The family moved to Blanco, where he began his high school years. Tony graduated from Blanco High School in 1974. After high school, he worked in different fields until 1978, when he moved to Echo Hill Ranch in Kerrville, TX, and became foreman of the ranch. On January 1, 1980, Tony met the love of his life, Clara Torrez who became his wife on February 2, 1980. They were married for 44 years during which they welcomed 9 wonderful children.
Tony and Clara moved to Lampasas in 1984. He worked in construction for a few years until starting work at Oil States Industries in 1987 working there until 2007. He worked in various positions until 2013, when he began working at Entegris, Inc. in Burnet, TX. He became a Blending Engineer and he took pride in his work. He worked at Entegris until April 2024 when he became ill, but he longed to return to his position.
Tony was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church until his dying day. He enjoyed being a Lector and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion which he took to the Homebound parish members. He was very active in A.C.T.S Missions, helping on several retreats where he grew so much spiritually and enjoyed fellowship with his brother and sisters in Christ. Tony was very devoted to his wife and children, to whom he left a lasting example and very fond memories. He was an avid sports fan and a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. His other interests were in music, fishing, hunting, softball, washer pitching, gardening, chess, playing the Lottery, collecting caps, and building bbq pits and he will always be remembered for his famous BBQs, especially his brisket and hot sauce.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, infant twin sisters, Alex, Rodger, Johnny, Katy, and his nephew, Bobby J.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Clara; his sons, Mark (Liz), Matthew, Tony Jr., Andy (Jordyn) and Adam; his daughters, Michelle, Amanda (Anthony), Carlie (Benjamin) and Cierra; his grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Lysette, Alyssa, Nathaniel, Anthony, Tristan, Lauren, Lacey, Ariana, Uriah, Jaxon, Elijah, Coraline, and Asher; his loving siblings, Grace, Orlando (Patricia), Arlene, and Roland "Dino" (Cindy) Gamez.
He was Uncle Tony to many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He also had a very large amount of extended family, as well as many friends that he considered family.
Tony enjoyed many movies and shows (The Godfather Series, All in the Family, Law and Order), but the Lord of the Rings Saga was certainly on top and it was the last movie he had watched the day before his passing. Tony believed in God and the Resurrection. He believed it was important to be dependable and responsible and to work hard. Respect was a given and when it came to family, love hard and be ready to forgive. DON'T HOLD ON TO "STUFF". Although he has departed this world, he will be missed and the impact he left on many will live on.
