Thomas Vanderwerff Appel, age 48, of Copperas Cove passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial following at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Scott's Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.
Thomas was born on August 26, 1968, in Germany to John and Jutta Appel Vanderwerff. Thomas attended elementary school in Germany before coming to the United States. He graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1988. Thomas was an electrician by trade and worked for Bass Electric as a journeyman for the past 16 years. Thomas married Katy Blum in 2012 in Killeen. In his spare time, he loved to work on his yard, play with his children and tinker with cars.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Katy Vanderwerff Appel; children, Krystallyn Vanderwerff Appel, Nicholas Vanderwerff Appel; foster children, Elizabeth McDonald, Jessica Brenton, Rhiannan Rodenn; parents, John and Jutta Vanderwerff; and one sister, Caroline McGraw and family.
