Thomas Berg

Thomas L. Berg, age 56, of Copperas Cove, TX, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116, Copperas Cove, Texas 76522. The Memorial Service for Thomas Berg will be live-streamed on the Viss Family Funeral Home Facebook page .

Tom was born on October 15, 1965, to James Berg and Lucille Hoeper in St. James, MN. He graduated from Atwater High School in Atwater, MN. While in high school he enjoyed playing football, which led him to become a Vikings fan. In 1983, he met Terry Ruchti and they married on September 22, 1984. They lived in Atwater and had two sons before joining the United States Army in 1991. They spent the next four years serving in Germany before coming to Fort Hood in 1995. In 1997, he transitioned from communications in the Army to network systems on the civilian side with MCI World Com/Verizon.

Tom loved to spend time outside. He could build just about anything and enjoyed smoking a variety of meats in his smokehouse for his family and for football games. Everyone loved Tom’s homemade BBQ sauce, his brisket, ribs, smoked sausage, and his homemade pies.

Tom is survived by his wife of 37 years, Terry Berg; son, Matthew Berg and wife, Michelle and their children, Kristin, Aaron, Nevaeh and Serena; son, Daniel Berg and wife, Jennifer, and their son, Shane; father, James (Jim) Berg and wife Bonnie; mother, Lucille Hoeper; three brothers, David Berg, Doug Berg and wife, Mary and Jeff Berg and wife, Vickie; two sisters, Nancy Christensen and husband, Doug,  Mary Jo Schmaedeka and husband, Wade; and several nieces and nephews. Tom was loved by many family and friends.
