Irving King, 91 of Lampasas, TX died Sunday April 7, 2019 at Gateway Gardens in Marble Falls. He was born July 19, 1927 in San Antonio, TX to parents Thomas Irving King Sr. and Erna (Vogapole) King. Irving grew up in San Antonio and graduated from high school there. As WWII was coming to a close, Irving joined the U.S. Navy. After the Navy he attended Southern Methodist University and earned his Bachelor’s degree. He continued his education and received his Master of Divinity degree from SMU Perkins School of Theology. Irving married Margie Whitman June 6, 1955 and they served together many churches in Texas over his long tenure as a pastor. Towns in which he served as pastor includes; Agua Dulce, Industry, Blanco, George West, Hallestville, Karnes City, Cuero, Palacios, San Angelo (Day Memorial), San Antonio (Bethany), Bronte, Miles, Smithville, Crystal City, Taft, Lometa and Bend. He retired and then “unretired” when he was asked by the Conference to serve a very small parish in Oakalla. Irving was TRULY a servant of God. He loved the Lord, his Country, his Community and his family. He served as a Lion and a Rotarian and on many church and community boards and committees and was always active in the local Ministerial Alliance. His favorite community “job” was working with the CAPS Childrens After School Program at the Methodist Church where he would ring the bell of welcome and play games with the children there. He loved Gospel music, singing in the choir and making a joyful noise to the Lord. He never complained once about interrupting his schedule to go to the aid of others in need. He lived by Faith every day of his life. He is survived by his Daughter, Martha King Logan (Brad) Sons, Timothy King and Philip King 5 grandchildren; Paige, Ian, Kristi, Roxanne and Alyssa.. 12 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild Irving was preceded in death by his parents, by wife Margie King, by son, Thomas David King and by sister, Dorothy L. Kammer. Funeral service will be Saturday April 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Marble Falls. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be sent to the Methodist Children’s Home, Kindred Hospice or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
