Ssg William Tompkins, U.S. Army, Ret.

William Roger Tompkins, age 66, of Killeen passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at home. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Bill was born on October 22, 1954, in Philadelphia, PA to William and Laura Ogden Tompkins. He grew up in Philadelphia and moved to Colorado where he joined the United States Army in 1973. Bill served for 20 years before retiring while at Fort Hood. After his retirement in 1993, he worked on Fort Hood as an aircraft mechanic. In his spare time, he loved to fish, hunt, read and follow aviation news. Bill loved the Lord and was a faithful Baptist his whole life. He will be remembered for his sense of humor.  Bill was a member of the VFW Post #3892 in Harker Heights.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Roger Tompkins, Sr.

Bill is survived by his wife, Phebe Ann Tompkins; son, William “Billy” R. Tompkins, III; mother, Laura Ogden Tompkins; brother, Mark Tompkins and wife, Jennifer; two grandchildren, William Tompkins, IV and Krista Tompkins and many friends he made throughout his life.
