SSG Michael James Callahan, 67, of Copperas Cove, passed away on June 5, 2020. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen when restrictions are lifted
Michael was born La Grange, IN to the late Clifford Raymond Callahan and Verna Viola Sharpe Callahan on September 29, 1952. He went to Coldwater High School at Coldwater, MI. He served in the U. S. Army for 20 years. He was a veteran of Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. He was awarded Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal w/3 Oak Clusters, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal w/1 Service Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), NCO Professional Development Ribbon Numeral 3, Overseas Service Ribbon Numeral 3, Expert Badge Rifle and Pistol, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/2-Bronze Service Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal.
He married Elizabeth Lara on March 17, 2007, in Harlingen, TX. For the past several years, Michael worked for the CCISD as a bus driver and mechanic.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd A. Hoard, Jr, William J. Hoard, Lowell D. Callahan, Sr; and a sister, Karen Manning.
Michael is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sister, Brenda Graley and husband, Danny; stepson, Alfredo Lara, and numerous nephews and nieces whom he loved.
