SSG James Barnett, USA, ret., age 70, of Copperas Cove passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. A Memorial Graveside with Full Military Honors will be at 2:00 PM, June 7, 2016 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Jim Barnett was born on September 14, 1945 in Lock, Arkansas to the late James and Billie Washam Barnett. He graduated from Independence High School in Kansas. He married Veda Snyder on December 24, 1965 in Joplin, Missouri. Jim joined the United States Air Force in 1965 and served for five years before later joining the United States Army. Jim finished his military career after 20 years of service. The next 17 years he was a cross country truck driver. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Barnett; brother, David Barnett and children, James V. Barnett, Jr. and Michelle Diane Barnett.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Veda Barnett; mother, Billie Maddox; step-mother, Lois Barnett; brother, Jack Maddox; sisters, Kathy Hawthorne, Vicki Barnett and several nieces and nephews.
