Sharon Ann Toro, 52, of Kempner and originally from Naschitti, New Mexico passed away on January 31, 2021, surrounded by her family in Kempner, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116 in Copperas Cove with burial following at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at the funeral home. The chapel service will be live-streamed on our Facebook page, Viss Family Funeral Home, Burial & Cremation Services.
Sharon was born in Gallup, New Mexico to the late Anthony J. and Joan Benally Yazzie on July 26, 1968. She went to school at Window Rock High School, Arizona. She married Jerman Toro on March 20, 1996, in Saint Johns, Arizona. She graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Belton Texas with a degree in Cell biology. She worked as a Seasonal Field Biologist, Botanist, and Wild Land Firefighter for The Nature Conservancy for two years. She then departed to pursue Professional Education with Texas Chiropractic College.
She was a veteran and served in the Army where she was awarded National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Joint Meritorious Unit Award. She was a member of the Destiny Church Choir.
Sharon is preceded in death parents; maternal grandparents, Hosteen and Mary Beyal Benally; her paternal grandparents, John and Linda Reed.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Jerman Toro; children, Desirae A. Yazzie, Danesha D. Toro, Candace J. Toro, and Mikalah M. Toro; one granddaughter, Demi A. Calderon; sisters, Diane J. Malone, Darlene J. Yazzie, Annabelle Cronemeyer and husband, Cinco, Donna Mae Begay and husband, Nelson; a brother, Marvin J. Yazzie and wife, Noreen.
