Soledad Mahr

February 26, 1929 — March 15, 2025

Killeen, Texas

Soledad Mahr, a beloved matriarch whose spirit radiated warmth and laughter, was born on February 26, 1929, in Tampico, Mexico. She departed this world peacefully on March 15, 2025, in Killeen, Texas, ready to embrace the eternal comfort of her Lord, her husband, Leslie Mahr Sr., who passed away in 2021, and the family members who preceded her in death.

From her early years in Monterrey, Mexico, Soledad exhibited a remarkable talent for working with her hands, leading her to a career in assembly line work at GE Electric before her journey brought her to the United States. Upon marrying her husband in 1962, their partnership blossomed into a flourishing upholstery business that showcased their shared dedication and hard work. Soledad played a vital role in the operation, skillfully preparing furniture for her husband to upholster while their daughter, Patricia, contributed her talents in sewing. Together, they crafted a legacy that spanned over five decades, nurturing a family business that thrived until 2014.

Soledad was known for her quick wit and vibrant sense of humor, often filling rooms with laughter and joy. Her family cherished the moments they could coax a hearty belly laugh from her—an infectious sound that resonated with love and connection. Always a lady, she placed immense value on family, especially her granddaughter Brittany, who brought her boundless joy, and her great-granddaughter Allia, who brightened her last days with her innocent wonder.

Despite not completing her formal education, Soledad's adventurous spirit led her to attend cosmetology school, a testament to her tenacity and willingness to learn. A steadfast example of selflessness, she consistently put the needs of others before her own, embodying a work ethic that inspired all who knew her. Her Catholic faith remained the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and decisions with grace.

A master in the kitchen, Soledad delighted her loved ones with her culinary skills, expertly blending the rich flavors of Mexican and Hungarian cuisine. Her adoration for tulips, hummingbirds, and the color purple reflected her vibrant personality and love for beauty in the world around her.

Soledad was known for her proud accomplishment of learning to drive in her fifties, an achievement that brought her immense happiness and a newfound sense of freedom. She lived a remarkable life, surrounded by the love of her immediate family in a four-generation household until her cherished last day.

She leaves behind a loving daughter, Patricia; a granddaughter, Brittany, and her husband, Albert; along with great-grandchildren, Allia and Markus. Her legacy is further carried on by her dear nephew, Tom Baird, and his wife, Mary, along with their children. Soledad will be missed but lovingly remembered by all her family, friends, and the devoted staff of New Century Hospice, who cared for her until the very end.
