Sgt, Usa David Whaley

June 27, 1949 — August 30, 2017

David Whaley, age 68, of Copperas Cove passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Scott's Funeral Home of Copperas Cove with Dr. Mark Kemp officiating. Burial will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

David was born on June 27, 1949, to J.E. and Dorothy Haynes Whaley in St. Louis, Missouri. After high school, he joined the United States Army and served for 20 years. Following his retirement, he worked for the City of Copperas Cove for 10 years then served as a gate guard on Fort Hood. David later married Kathleen Byorum Crane. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove serving in a number of ministries. David will be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather. He was humble and generous to a fault, always putting the needs of others ahead of his own, and the word "no" was not in his vocabulary.

David was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Larry Whaley.

David is survived by his wife, Kathleen Crane-Whaley; mother, Dorothy Whaley; sons, Paul Whaley, Chris Whaley; Kathleen's children, Ronald Crane and wife, Diane, David Crane and wife Katherine, Teresa Mathews, Kenneth Crane, Jr., and wife, Amy; sisters, Brenda Dees and husband, Jim, Sandra Lockwood and husband, Greg; grandchildren, Miriam and husband, John, Stephen, Daniel, Benjamin, Hannah, Mathew, Rachel, Caitlin, Lauren, Connor, Kyle and wife, Alexa, Dillon, Carson, Caden, Clayton, and one great grandchild, Mia Mathews.

David’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Interim Hospice for their expertise and caring hearts as we walked through this journey.  Our hospice angels, Jordan and Angela, cared for David consistently with love and patience.  We always looked forward to their smiling faces and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove, 300 W. Ave B, Copperas Cove, TX 76522.
