With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sammie Sanders Jr., who passed away on February 26, 2025. Born on April 13, 1948, in Covington, Kentucky, to Sammie and Alice Sanders, he grew up in Walton, Kentucky, where he developed a love for fishing and spending time with family.
Sammie had a wonderful laugh that could light up a room. He enjoyed watching sports on television, especially college women's softball, and soap operas. A generous man with a giving heart, he would gladly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
He was also an amateur bodybuilder well into his 40s, showcasing his dedication and discipline in all aspects of life.
Over the years, Sammie dedicated his hard work and talents to Delta Airlines, Rockwell International, and the Killeen Independent School District. His kindness and work ethic left a lasting impact on those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gwendlyn Sanders of Lampasas, Texas, whom he loved immensely; his son, Tommy Hughes, and wife, Jennifer (Jenny) Hughes, along with their children, Brighton, Jacob, and Paul, all of Kempner, Texas; and his granddaughter, Hannah of Whidbey Island, Washington.
Sammie was very proud of his son's military service, his granddaughter attending college, and his grandsons excelling in sports.
Sammie was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Per his wishes, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Heart Association in his honor.
Sammie's warmth, generosity, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
