Ruby L. King, age 75 of Copperas Cove, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 in Killeen.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel in Copperas Cove, with Rev. Ron Winsman officiating. Inurnment and military honors will be at a later date at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
She was the oldest of five children, born on March 31, 1940 to the late August and Rose Jannsen in Stevensville Montana. She graduated May 1958 from Myrtle Creek High School in Oregon, with honors in the top 10 percent of National norms. She entered the United States Women's Army Corp June 1958-1960 in the top 10 of her NCO class. Ruby married the love of her life, Vernon B King on August 13, 1960. Throughout their marriage, she was blessed with the great adventures of touring Germany (twice) and parts of the United States with Vernon & her girls, Debby, Sheryl and Brenda. Ruby graduated from Central Texas College with an Associate of Applied Science as a member of Phi Beta Kappa in May of 1976. Shortly thereafter, she started working in the Criminal Justice Department of Central Texas College, retiring from there in August of 1999. Her husband preceded her in death on March 19, 2002.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Linda and Joanne.
She is survived by her three daughters Debby Forrester, Sheryl Rhodes, Brenda Wessels-Griggs and their spouses, Jon Forrester, Ty Davis, Ross Griggs; two brothers, James and Jerry Jannsen; and five grandchildren, Ricky and Drennon Forrester, Robert and Jennifer Rhodes and Lynzee Davis.
Ruby will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, playing "Candy Crush" on the Kindle, her cats, Peppy and Snowball and most of all, spending time with family and special friends.
