Rosa Caraballo

On Sunday, December 8, 2019, Rosa Iris Caraballo Velez, loving mother, and grandmother passed away at age 80. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 am Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove. Visitation will be from 5-6:30 pm Friday with a Rosary at 6:30 at Scott’s Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.

Iris was born on February 27, 1939, in Maricao, Puerto Rico to Primitivo Caraballo Santiago and Elisa Velez Vasquez. She attended Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Puerto Rico de Ponce. On November 18, 1961, she married Gilbert Gomez Torres. Together, they raised two daughters: Norma Iris and Maria Elisa.

Iris loved kids and was a positive influence on many children who grew up in the community. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and became a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in the 1970s. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking and passed on her skills to her daughters, granddaughters, and grandson. She was known for her loving and giving heart.

Iris is preceded in death by her father, Primitivo Caraballo Santiago; her mother, Elisa Velez Vasquez; and her sister, Eugenia Caraballo Courchene.

Iris is survived by her husband, Gilbert Torres; her brothers, Edwin Caraballo Velez, Wilson Caraballo Velez, and Miguel Angel Caraballo Velez; her sister, Juanita Caraballo Velez; her daughter, Norma Ceccacci and her husband, Vincent Ceccacci, of Blossburg, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Lisa Wilson, and her husband, Eddie Wilson of Copperas Cove, Texas; her grandson, Anthony D’Alena of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; her granddaughter Kara Elisa Colston and her husband, Travis Colston, of Copperas Cove, Texas; her granddaughter, Alex Rene Wilson of Copperas Cove, Texas; her great-granddaughter, June Elisa Myong Colston of Copperas Cove, Texas; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and close family friends.

Iris’ final wishes include donations to Holy Family Catholic Church in lieu of flowers.
