Ronald Mitchell

December 23, 1944 — January 10, 2014

Ronald (Ron) Mitchell, age 69 of Copperas Cove, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014, after battling cancer.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Scott's Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.  Inurnment will follow at 2:00 PM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Ron was born on December 23, 1944 in Greeley, Colorado, to George and the late Ruby Mitchell.  He grew up in Kansas.  He graduated from Great Bend High School in Great Bend, Kansas in 1962.  He obtained his Bachelor and Masters Degree in Industrial Arts Education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.  He married Connie Wilson on September 10, 1966.  He taught school for one year before entering the U.S. Army in 1968, serving for three years, being honorably discharged in 1971 at Ft. Hood.    They made their home in Copperas Cove.  He was a self employed trim carpenter retiring in May of 2013.  He was always involved in woodwork projects.  He loved playing with his favorite granddaughter Ally, his red trike motorcycle and road trips with Connie and his other motorcycle friends.

Ron is survived by his wife of 47 years, Connie; father, George Mitchell of Killeen; daughter, Stacy McTarnahan and husband John of Round Rock; son, Brian Mitchell of Boston, Massachusetts; three brothers, Lee Mitchell and wife Vicky of Harker Heights, Dale Mitchell and wife Yvonne of Omaha, Nebraska, Larry Mitchell and wife Jeri of Pratt, Kansas; and one granddaughter, Ally McTarnahan.

Memorials may be made to the individual’s favorite charity.
