Roger Allen Salser, 79, passed away on June 7, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Temple, TX. He was born on December 6, 1941 in East Liverpool, Ohio to Harry and Bonnie Kloh Salser.
A private memorial service will be held at the family home. Mr. Salser will be cremated.
Roger grew up a military brat, but his fondest memories were from his grandparent's farm in West Virginia and in his family's stay in New Mexico. He graduated from high school in Vine Grove, Kentucky in 1959. He joined the US Navy shortly thereafter. He served in the submarine service and traveled through a good part of the world. He was a well-read, self-taught man who loved languages, cooking, and carpentry, but mostly he loved his family.
Roger married Jutta Degen in 1972 in Lousiville, KY and they were happily married for 49 years.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Judy Lynn Salser.
Roger is survived by his wife, Jutta of Lampasas; his son, Roger, Jr. of Arizona; his daughters, Sonja (David) of Virginia, Jessica (Michael) of Lampasas; grandchildren, Kristin Nevarez (Jose) of Arizona, Degen Benedict of Virginia, Pepper and Pearl Sanchez of Lampasas and several great-grandchildren, including, Lily and Ezra Nevarez of Arizona; he is also survived by a sister and several nieces and nephews.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great pride and joy to him. Roger was a joker and a generous soul. In lieu of flowers, have a laugh, tell a joke, and create a smile for someone.
