Robert Storey

Robert Storey, 73, of Kempner passed away in Temple on Thursday, April 13, 2017. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Scott's Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.

Bob was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Guinn Haven Sanderlin and Julia Almina Thornton.  He was raised from less than a year old by Arnold Bascum and Julia Almina Storey in Uvalde and Big Lake, TX.

Bob served his country joining the US Navy in 1962 as a machinist mate, serving for 20 years. He then worked in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. He also was a civilian security guard at a Navy Nuclear Storage Site and served as a US Marine and Washington National Guard sniper instructor.

During his time in the Navy, he received numerous awards some of which were: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Awards, Navy Commendation Medal.

As a civilian, he received numerous awards some of which were: a Puget Sound Navy Shipyard Plaque in recognition of over 40 years of dedicated federal service, 2004 All Navy Pistol Championship, 1st Place Long Range Rifle, Onslow Memorial Trophy, 1997 Match Winner 1000 yard service rifle.

In 2013, Bob relocated from the state of Washington to Kempner, Texas. He spent time working on his yard and his new home making improvements.  During his time in Kempner, Texas, he ran 5K races, enjoyed his early morning coffee with friends at Rebecca's Kitchen, and joined the Golden Agers bowling league at Hallmark Lanes in Killeen.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his children, Ida Rae, Sheila Anne, John Edward, So-Jung; and his grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Anne (Bob) Surma, John (Betty) Storey, James (Cindy) Storey and Dean (Susan) Storey; his partner, Linda Oxentenko; and his pets, Sam and Danny, both rescue dogs.  Bob was a loyal friend to his dogs.
