Robert Charles Gilmer, a man who dedicated over 40 years of his life to the world of business, passed away on April 29, 2024 at the age of 72 in Copperas Cove, Texas. He was born on August 24, 1951, in Dallas, Texas to Joe and Doris Gilmer. Along with his parents, Robert is reunited in death with his brother-in-laws, Cecil Browning and Alexander Graham.
Robert's professional journey was marked by success and dedication. He spent decades working for Brookshire Foods and Brookshire Brothers ultimately reaching the esteemed position of Vice President of Human Resources before his retirement in 2010. Post-retirement, Robert embarked on a new venture alongside his beloved wife Nancy: transforming a mobile home park in Killeen, TX into a thriving RV Park. His commitment and work ethic shone brightly in every endeavor he pursued.
A man of many talents and passions, Robert will be remembered for his remarkably friendly nature. Known as a friend to all who crossed his path – be it RV Park residents, colleagues, employees, or fellow travelers – Robert cherished the bonds of companionship deeply. His warm personality and infectious sense of humor endeared him to many.
In addition to his professional achievements and amiable demeanor, Robert was also a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and later attended Tyler Junior College as a member of Apache Belle's Honor Guard. He furthered his education by graduating from East Texas College in Commerce, TX.
Robert enjoyed various aspects of life such as cooking, traveling, music, and storytelling. His keen intellect and witty storytelling abilities brought joy to those around him. Friends delighted in listening to his tales that often offered insights into his unique perspective on the world.
Robert leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by many. He is survived by his devoted wife Nancy Cross Gilmer; children Jeff and Heather Cross, Jason and Nicole Gilmer, Jennifer Gilmer Ficke; Joshua and Melissa Gilmer; grandchildren William Cross, Phillip Cross, Elizabeth Cross, Cale Gilmer, Jaxson Ficke; Madalynn Gilmer; Jace Ficke, and Kaelea Gilmer; sisters Shirley Gilmer and spouse, Linda Balatti; Carolyn Browning; Theresa Graham; along with aunt Jane Thompson.

Robert will be remembered in a Celebration of Life Service later this summer in Lufkin, TX.
