Funeral services for Ms. Nina E. Brumbley are scheduled for 1:00p.m.,Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Calvary Episcopal church in wilmington, delaware. Ms. Brumbley passed away Monday evening at her residence. She was born July 4, 1918, in Wilmington, Delaware to the union of Henry Stevens Hamm, Sr. and Nina Elizabeth Valliant. Nina attended the Dover School in Dover, Delaware from elementary through high school.� After graduation from high school, she attended one year of nursing school at the Church Home and Infirmary in Baltimore, Maryland. The nursing school was connected with John Hopkins University. On a New Years Eve, Joseph Matthews Brumbley proposed to Nina.� They were married February 21, 1942 at St. John's Cathedral, Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Market Street, in Wilmington, Delaware. Together, Nina and Joe raised six children at Shadow Lawn, Gordon Heights in Wilmington, Delaware. Nina was a woman of faith and charity. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Wilmington, Delaware. She was on the Pastoral Care Committee, Alter Committee, Coffee Hour Committee, and for years she mailed the church bulletins to shut-ins. She personalized each bulletin, even though she may not have known them personally. In January of 1957, she joined the Queen Esther Rebekah Lodge IOOF #5. She was also a member of the Daughters of America Colonists since 1990, the Federation of Women's Clubs and the Sellers Senior Center. She was an avid outdoors woman, who enjoyed camping, hiking, canoeing and especially gardening.� She was involved in volunteer work for both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts and at Edgemoor ELementary school library when we were children.� Nina loved to cook. The donut assembly line was famous throughtout the neighborhood. Nina would deep fry the donuts and her children along with all the kids in the neighborhood would roll then in confectioners sugar. rarely did a donut make it all the way to the cooling rack. One can only imagine how many chicken salad sandwiches; tollhouse cookies, peanut butter blossoms and rum balls were lovingly made in her kitchen for all of the church and other social events she was involved with. She left an amazing legacy of love, service, perseverance and faith to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and everyone whose life she touched. Brumbley.
