Michael Robert Newman, 63, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020 at Advent Hospital in Killeen. Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Sneed Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Michael was born on November 17, 1956 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Donald Newman and Jean Francis Stoehr (Pugh). He moved to Lampasas in Jr High and graduated from Lampasas High School in 1975. Michael married Anita Lorraine Hurt in 1976 in Lampasas and they were happily married for 44 years. Michael had many interests, he loved the ocean and worked off shore as a deckhand. This experience led him to pursue trade school to become a commercial diver, where he became a certified underwater welder. He was also an avid Indy car race fan, and he was fortunate to be able to work for Howerton Racing in Indianapolis, Indiana building racecar wings. Michael also worked for General Dynamics, where he built F-16 wings for fighter jets. Ultimately, he completed an apprenticeship with the Sheet Metal Workers Union and worked as a Journeyman until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union #67, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fort Worth. Michael was also a talented drummer and played with several bands throughout the years, as well as an amazing artist. He painted beautiful pictures and loved to work on building detailed replica models. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Francis Stoehr Pugh; step-father, Lester Glenn Pugh and son, Tyson Eric Newman. Survivors: Wife, Anita of Lampasas; daughter, Heather of Lampasas; brother, Gregg Newman and wife, Patty of Marietta, Oklahoma; sisters, Laura Newman of Whitesboro, Texas, Cheryl Gerardi and husband, Bob of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Hannah Stults (Jordan Anderson), Joshua Beaver, Kelly Beaver, Jackson Beaver; great-granddaughter, Carter Anderson and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
