Michael Lane Menke, Sr., age 68, passed away at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, May 30, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.
Mr. Menke is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Michelle Menke; his children: Michelle (Michael) Zipperer, Lisa Gale and Michael L. Menke, Jr.; his grandchildren: Trent and Morgan Zipperer and Katie and Ryan Gale; two brothers, David (Diane) Menke, Mark (Claudia) Menke and his sister, Pat (Randy) Hall as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer H. and Mary Jane Menke, his brother Daniel Menke and his stepdaughter, Monica Triska.
Mr. Menke was born in Parsons, KS and joined the United States Navy initially at age 17 in 1962. He served for four years then went to work for Kemtron Technologies in the Marshall Islands. Upon his return from the Marshall Islands, He rejoined the Navy in 1972 serving all over the world for a total of 30 years before he retired to El Cajon, California as a Radio Man Chief in 1996. While in the service, he earned an Associates of Science Degree from New York Regents University in June 1985.
Upon retirement from the Navy, he worked as a computer network technician for Qualcomm Corporation for ten years. Mr. Menke and his wife finally settled in Kempner, Texas in 2011.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity that was near to Mr. Menke's heart, American Coalition for Fathers & Children.
