Copperas Cove

MayBelle Smith, 72, of Kansas City, KS, passed away on July 13, 2022, in Copperas Cove, TX. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, July 29th 2022 at J.W. Jones in Kansas City, KS.

MayBelle Smith was born in St. Louis, MO to Walter S Smith Sr. and Audrey Mae (Seals) Smith on October 16, 1949.  She was educated in the Kansas City, KS public school district and graduated from Sumner High School in 1967. MayBelle loved to sing and was in several choirs. After graduating high school she attended Pittsburg State University.

MayBelle grew up Catholic but later practiced the Christian faith. She accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord. MayBelle was a faithful member of Roswell Church of Christ in KCKS until she relocated to Texas.  MayBelle always stated, “I am spiritual and not religious, I have a relationship with God.”

MayBelle was known for crocheting blankets. She loved doing arts and crafts, like coloring, drawing, painting, and making jewelry. MayBelle loved to travel, spend time with family, and cooking.

MayBelle married Jesse Addison Jr. in 1969, in Kansas City, KS. From this union, two sons were born: Jesse Addison III and Steven V. Addison.

MayBelle married Wille C Johnson in 1980, in Kansas City, KS. From this union, they added their daughter: Alicia C.A Johnson.

In 2001, MayBelle knew she had more love to give and adopted, as a single parent, her daughter: Patricia Smith.

MayBelle worked at Bendix/Allied Signal/ HoneyWell until her retirement. After retiring, she opened up her own daycare for several years. MayBelle believed it takes a village to raise a child and she was a part of many children's villages as MayBelle never met a stranger. MayBelle was active in the PTA and Girl Scouts during the late 80’s and early 90’s co-leading the troup for her daughter Alicia for several years.

MayBelle believed in supporting family and helping others whenever she could; which was often.  MayBelle would give you her last and expect nothing in return.

MayBelle is preceded in death by both of her parents; her sister, Carmen Dale; her brother, Anthony R. Smith; and two brother-in-laws, Muhammad Safir and Clorse Dale.

MayBelle leaves to cherish her memory: her children; Jesse Addison III (Victoria) of Nevada, Steven V Addison Sr. (Kay) of Texas, Alicia C. A Harris-Johnson (LaShante) of Kansas City, and Patricia A. Smith of Kansas City; her brother; Walter S. Smith (Janie); her sisters; Andrea D. Smith, Felicia D.Safir, and Madeline M. Kennedy; her grandchildren, Jesse Addison IV, Steven V. Addison Jr. Alexandria C.M. Goodloe, Kaylani Angel Addison, and Laylah Harris-Johnson; one great-grandson, Jesse Addison V; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends

Memorials may be given to J.W. Jones in Kansas City, KS.
