Maurine Biles Wright

Maurine Biles Wright, 89, of Houston, Texas, died peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2024, surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 30, 1935, in Buda, Texas, To Maurine Crow Biles and Jeff Davis Biles.  She grew up in San Marcos, Texas, attending San Marcos High School where she was a leader of the student council and a majorette.  She attended the University of Texas at Austin in 1957 and graduated with a BA in Education.  It was at the University of Texas that she met her beloved husband, Darrell Wright.

Maurine served as an elementary school teacher for 23 years and was adored by her students and peers.  She was a devoted member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and cherished her time with her much-loved Bible study group who she remained close with until she passed.  Her interests included traveling, reading, playing bridge with friends, and her garden club.  Her friends described her as "beautiful, loving, fun, wise, and warm."  Maurine's vibrant energy, quick wit, and abundant faith kept her embracing life's adventures until the very end.

Maurine was an amazing grandmother, adored by each generation, leaving a strong legacy of love, faith, and joy.  She treasured every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Bebe."

She is survived by her son, Darby Wright, and his wife, Tammy, and their children, Travis Wright (Lacette) and Kayleigh Bryan (Will); her daughter, Laura Shoppa, and her husband, Chris, and their children, Will Shoppa (Caroline), Madison Davis (Dietrich), and Mackenzie Moore (Preston); as well as nine great-grandchildren, Hunt, Mackenzie, Henry, Campbell, Eloise, Wright, McCreary, Liam, and Fyora.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

The family would like to thank Tonya Christophe for her devotion and impeccable care, which immensely added to Maurine's quality of life and allowed her to enjoy her nine great-grandchildren in her final years.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on November 16, 2024, at Nix Cemetery in Lampasas, Texas.  A reception will follow at Nix Community Center directly after the service.

Additionally, a celebration of life service will be held in Houston at 11:30 am on November 19, 2024, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.  Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the parlor.
