Madonna Johnson, lovingly known as "Nana," was born on August 21, 1962, in Paintsville, KY, and left this world peacefully on January 9, 2025, at her home in Kempner, TX. A devoted military spouse and mother, Madonna radiated love and strength throughout her life, embodying the essence of a nurturing caregiver and vibrant spirit.
From her early years, Madonna demonstrated an infectious joy for life. She graduated from Hobbs High School and later earned an Associate's Degree from New Mexico Junior College. Madonna’s devotion to her family was unwavering. She effortlessly balanced her roles, always ensuring that her daughters, Lora Hatfield and Khara Owen, had moments filled with joy and laughter. One cherished memory that her family holds dear is the adventurous car wash outings followed by delightful ice cream shop visits—simple joys that defined their weekends. As a mother, her proudest accomplishments were raising strong, beautiful daughters who would grow to become wonderful mothers themselves.
Madonna's love and warmth extended beyond her immediate family. Her spirit truly shone as "Nana" to her grandchildren: Hayden, Kenlei, Macy, Elena, and Lily Hatfield. She took great pride in spending time with them, whether it was through naps, hair brushing, or delightful story time. Watching her grandbabies grow and learn filled her with immense joy.
Madonna was well-known for her passions beyond family life. She embraced her role as a "plant mom," delighting in the growth of seedlings, and found peace in watching the birds and butterflies in her yard. Crafting brought her immense satisfaction, allowing her to create beautiful gifts for those she loved. An avid shopper with an eye for antiques, she relished the hunt for treasures, constantly weaving her love of history and science into her interactions with her grandchildren.
Madonna's generous spirit resonated with everyone around her. She was a fun-loving person with a heart of gold, always putting her loved ones first. Her honesty, kindness, and unwavering willingness to help others made her a cherished friend.
While her battle with cancer over the past year was courageous and filled with moments of grace, she faced her illness head-on, surrounded by the love of her family and friends until her last breath. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and the strength of family bonds.
