Lucie Anne Barnard Greene, 85, passed through death into God's eternal presence on Friday, July 19, 2024. She was born on December 20, 1938, in Oklahoma City, OK, a greatly anticipated and loved daughter of George and Anne Robinson Gaston.
A time of visitation will be held at the Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Third St., Lampasas, TX, on Tuesday, July 30, from 10:00 a.m. until Noon. The family will be greeting friends and relatives. A private graveside service will be conducted for the family at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen at 2:00 p.m., July 30.
Lucie spent her childhood and teen years with her family in Mobile, AL., Miami, FL., Kerrville, Houston, and Freeport, TX. She graduated from Brazosport High School and then attended Baylor University. A 50-year resident of Lampasas, she taught kindergarten at First Baptist Church, Lampasas, for over 30 years, helping to shape countless children's lives. Her life has been God's gracious and faithful gift of love for the children she taught with energetic joy and for the family and friends she enjoyed.
Sustained by her strong faith in God, which she nurtured over a lifetime, she has lived with a positive spirit of encouragement through good times and times of suffering. Family gatherings and holidays were always great occasions with wonderful meals. Days like the 4th of July could turn into grand celebrations with singing, flags, and parades. Her children and grandchildren were beneficiaries of a focused love they will cherish always. Along the way, her iPhone and Facebook became indispensable tools for staying in touch with loved ones. Her uplifting notes, phone calls, generous conversation, laughter, and tears of compassion have been shared abundantly.
Over the past 38 years, Lucie and her loving husband, Bill Greene, have shared a life that has blessed one another and those they love. Their mutual passion for family, travel, and nature's beauty has been a source of renewal. One of life's good gifts has been the enjoyment of their backyard, sitting on the deck under beautiful oak trees and watching the wildlife that often appeared. It was a heavenly place to rest, a glimpse of things to come.
Lucie B. Greene is survived by her husband, Bill, who provided faithful encouragement and caregiving during the many months of her declining health, as did her loving daughter, Andrea Barnard Pelczar, and husband, Johnny. She is also survived by her brother, George Gaston, and wife, Susan; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins; a niece and three nephews and several other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mark David Barnard; her husband, Michael Upton Barnard; her brother, John Gaston and granddaughter, Alexis Barnard.
