Melissa "Lisa" Sloan Foil was born on October 3, 1956, in San Saba, Texas to Peter Claude Sloan and Johnnie Lou Ewing.  She passed on September 18, 2023, at her home on her family ranch in Sloan Community, San Saba, Texas.

Lisa attended elementary school in San Saba, moved to Houston for a year, and finished her schooling at Lampasas High School in 1975.  She attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 1978 with a Biomedical Science degree.  Lisa received her teaching certification from Tarleton University in 1980 and began her profession as a teacher.  She taught middle and high school science for 28 years in Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Lisa met the love of her life, David Foil, in 2001 during her volunteer work with the Boy Scouts of America in Brownwood, Texas.  They married in 2003, moving to Georgia, Tennessee, and back to Texas during David's tenure working for the Boy Scouts.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, David Foil; her children, Benjamin Rollins and his wife Jena, Elizabeth McBee and her husband Cade, Andrew Rollins and his wife Kelsey, Chris Foil, Jill Smith and boyfriend Scott Weeks, and Kaylan Bracey and her husband Christopher; and her pride and joy 11 grandchildren, Ruby and Emma McBee, Hayes and Laney Rollins, Myles and Chance Foil, Logan and Cayden Larrimore, Karson Smith, Cooper and Brooks Bracey.

Survivors also include her mother, Johnnie Lou Ewing; sister, Cynthia Sloan; brother, Marcus Sloan and partner Shannon Hall; sister, Jennifer Radford and husband James; aunt, Josephine Sloan; uncle, Sam Sloan and wife Ginger; aunt Mirabell Roden and husband Jack; uncle, Thomas Lanier and wife Susan, and many cousins.

Lisa is preceded in death by her father, Peter Claude Sloan and her stepfather, JC Ewing, Jr.

Lisa spent all of her adult life serving as a volunteer leader in youth and community organizations.  She was involved in Scouting for over 30 years, holding many leadership positions, but her favorite was Scoutmaster.  She assisted numerous scouts in completing their Eagle Scout award, was instrumental in starting the National STEM program for the Boy Scouts, and countless camp staff.  One of her favorites was joining the National Jamboree Staff in 2001 and 2010.  She was awarded many distinguished Scouting awards on the district and personal levels.

Lisa was an incredible teacher and inspiration to so many of her students and scouts.  Her children and grandchildren will always remember her wonderful cooking, star-gazing nights, and trips to the river.  Her mother will remember the love of a precious daughter and the joy of watching her grow into such a talented woman.  Her siblings are grateful to have shared a childhood and adult life with her.  Many others will remember her for her warm hospitality, organization, love of travel, wealth of knowledge, and swift ability to accomplish any task.
