Leslie Ronald Detrick

Leslie Ronald Detrick, 84, of Lampasas, TX passed away on November 16, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.  He was born on August 20, 1939, in Portola, CA to the late Leslie Wilford Detrick and Lillie Inez (Mason) Detrick.

Les grew up in both California and Texas.  He graduated from Clyde (TX) High School in 1957.  After graduation he attended McMurry University in Abilene, TX before joining the United States Air Force.  He honorably served his country between 1959 and 1963.  He received his associates degree from Taft (CA) Community College.  Les worked for Standard/Chevron Oil Company in California and Alaska for 31 years, retiring as an Electrical Inspector, in 1993.

Les married the love of his life, Kay Jackilene Garoutte, on January 5, 1964.  They shared almost 60 wonderful years together.

Les was a voracious reader with almost encyclopedic recall of plot lines and characters.  In addition to being an avid fisherman and gentleman farmer in his retirement, he was a home brew master and home renovator deluxe.  He was also the best husband, dad, and poppa who will be dearly missed.

Les is survived by his beautiful bride, Kay.  He leaves his children: Charles (Margie) Detrick of Austin, TX, Cathrine Detrick Chambers of Burnet, TX, and Elizabeth (Jason) Browder of Bakersfield, CA; his grandchildren, Shawn Chambers of Kyle, TX, Megan Chambers of Atlanta, GA, Tom (Rebecca) Barton of Austin, TX, and Kate (Aaron) McCorcle of Leander, TX; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Barton, June Barton, and Ethan McCorcle.  He is also survived by his sister, Susan Detrick of Lampasas, TX; his brother, Bill (Linda) Detrick of Josephine, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Les's life will be held in the spring of 2024.
