Larry Allen Brooks, the owner of Larry’s Bikeshop, health food aficionado and lover of all things bike-related, died on November 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Allen Brooks; mother, Margaret; and brother John. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Brooks Chapoton; grandson, Jude Brooks-Benham; brothers, Dan and Terry Brooks; sisters, Alice Adams, Susan Holliday, and Mary Robbins; and long-time friend Carol Hawkins. All of these people (and more) will miss him very much. Larry enjoyed a good game of chess, music in all forms, fights over various topics with a worthy opponent, riding his bike and turning other people on to the same, and alternative medicine. Seeing Larry on his bike going to and from work or around town was a regular sight. He owned his bike shop for more than 35 years and made many cycling friends during this time. Larry was stubborn, eccentric, health conscious, incredibly smart and opinionated. We will all be forever changed for having known him. A memorial will be held on May 19th (his birthday) from 3:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Camp Caylor, 146 CR 4814, Copperas Cove, TX 76522. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cove House.
