Kent Derwood Wheeler, 81, of Lampasas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family after a hard fight with cancer. Graveside Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Smith Cemetery at School Creek. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church Lampasas in Derwood's name, 402 S. Key Ave, Lampasas, TX, 76550. Kent and Carolyn were married at School Creek Baptist Church, December 5, 1964 and were happily married for 55 years. Kent loved God and family and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lampasas, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed attending events at the Live Long and Like It (LLL) Group at FBC. Kent loved traveling with his wife and together they visited nearly all continental states. He loved helping his wife with her hobby of making quilts. Kent's hobby was baking sourdough bread and driving down bumpy country roads with bread still warm from the oven, his wife-in-tow, making deliveries. Kent was well-known for having a joke for every occasion and his family wishes he had left one in the will. Survivors: Wife, Carolyn Wheeler; son, Jason Wheeler; daughter, Lisa Stringer and husband, Bill; grandson, Santiago Galaviz; sister, Louise Masters and husband, Wayne and nephew, Kelvin Masters.
