Kenneth Sims, age 60 of Copperas Cove, Texas went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 18, 2012 in a Killeen hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove, with Rev. Stephen Schmidt officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Sims was born on March 5, 1952 in Summerville, South Carolina, where he also grew up and went to school. He married the love of his life, Teresa Burditt on March 10, 1973. He graduated from Summerville High School in 1973, and then went to work at the Naval Shipyard in Charleston, SC for 17 years. He and his family moved to Copperas Cove in 1995. He began working at B.L.O.R.A. in 1995, until his retirement in September of this year. His love was his wife and family, his Church and restoring vintage cars, the Atlanta Braves and NASCAR. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he and his wife have prepared and organized the Wednesday night fellowship meals for sixteen years.
He was preceded in death by his father and his mother, Evelyn Craven Simmons and a sister, Mary Simms Bennett.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Teresa Sims; two daughters, Michelle Phillips and husband Jared of Magnolia, TX, Amanda McKee and husband Kenneth of Kempner, TX; three sisters, Evie Chubb and husband Alfred of Jacksonboro, SC, Tammie Weatherford of Summerville, SC, Teresa Wilson of Charleston, SC; and five grandchildren.
