Kay Brown

Kay D. Brown, age 59, passed away at home in Copperas Cove surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021, at 10:00 AM, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116, Copperas Cove, TX with burial following at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Kay was born on February 21, 1962, in Kingston, Jamaica to the late Eric Francis and Myra Thompson. After graduating from High School in Jamaica, she joined the United States Army in 1983 and she served for 10 years. While in the military she met her beloved husband, Galanza Brown. They married on November 4, 1983, in Las Vegas. Together they had two beautiful children. After her time with the Army, she received her bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University in 2002. Kay retired after 30 years as a civil service employee working as a contracting officer (MICC) on Fort Hood. She enjoyed working all over the world and received many awards for her hard work.

Kay had a passion for traveling, playing bingo, and cooking curry chicken. She also enjoyed volunteering with the sisterhood of Comanche Chapel and the Good News Club teaching youth about the goodness of God. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Kay is survived by her husband of 38 years, Galanza Brown; children, Francesa Allison, Galanza Brown, Jr. and wife, Brittney; two sisters; one brother; and one granddaughter, Marley Kay Brown. She also leaves behind several cousins, nephews, nieces, and extended family members that she loved. Kay was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
