Judith Mary Allen Salerno, 81, passed away in Lampasas, Texas, on August 24, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on December 20, 1941, to Walter R. Allen and Patricia Farrell Allen.
She is survived by Charles S. Salerno, her beloved husband of 59 years, and by her children, Elizabeth James (Dennis), Kimberley Nelle (Tim), and Allen Salerno. She is loved and remembered by her grandchildren, Meghan James, Ashley Lavin (Kyle), Kristen Murphy (Michael), David Nelle, Rebekah James, and Brian Nelle, and by her great-grandsons, Mason Lavin and Finnian Murphy. Judy is also mourned by her sister, Betsy Mantheiy; brothers, John F. Allen (Neris) and Peter L. Allen (Tracy); sisters-in-law, Marilyn Dietrich and Betty Jo Boatman; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Lois Allen de la Torre.
A graduate of Dominican College, Houston, Texas, and a registered nurse, Judy initially worked in public health in Houston, and then as a school nurse for the Austin Independent School District. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lampasas and was a community and church volunteer throughout her life as well as an avid reader, nature lover, and traveler.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 1 to 2:30 pm at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel, 201 E. 3rd St., Lampasas, Texas. A short service will be held at 2 pm, followed by a burial service at 3 pm at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Lampasas Public Library, 201 S. Main Street, Lampasas, TX, 76550.
