Judith Ann Hetherly, born on July 11, 1942, in Lampasas, Texas, passed away on October 23, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of Valla and C.W. Hetherly Sr. Judith is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers C.W. and Clyde, her nephew Mark, and her grandnephew Andrew.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Wanda of Austin, nephew Mike Hetherly and his wife Natalie of Austin, niece Heather Lynch and her husband Joe of Cleveland, Ohio, and six grandnieces and nephews. Judith shared a deep bond with Wanda, whom she regarded as a sister.
A proud 1960 graduate of Lampasas High School, Judith went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State University and her master's degree in Home Economics Education at Texas Woman's University in 1969. During college, she served as treasurer of the Student Senate and held officer roles in Alpha Delta Pi, among other associations.
Judith devoted over 32 years to education, teaching at the secondary and university levels. She worked as an area consultant with the Texas Education Agency, later returning as Assistant Director and then Director of Family and Consumer Education. After retiring in 1996, she established a consulting business, collaborating with various state and national organizations and contributing to developing National Standards for Family and Consumer Education.
In 1999, Judith returned to her hometown of Lampasas, where she opened an antique business and became actively engaged in her community. She made history as the first female mayor in Lampasas, serving five years on the City Council and another five as mayor. Her significant contributions included Preservation Lampasas Inc. and Vision Lampasas Inc. and playing a vital role in establishing the Lampasas County Higher Education Center and its Foundation. Judith was also involved with the Chamber of Commerce and the County Historical Commission.

Judith Ann Hetherly's legacy of service, dedication, and love for her community will always be cherished.
Memorial services will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lampasas on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 12 pm with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
