Joyce Virginia Chaney Spears, 93, of Lampasas passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020. There will be a come and go visitation on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Graveside Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. Joyce was born on February 3, 1927, to Marion and Mabel Chaney in Canton, TX. Joyce grew up in Plainview, Texas, and graduated from Plainview High School in 1945. She married Judson Taylor (J.T.) Spears upon his return from service in WWII on January 1, 1946, in Matador, Texas. The couple resided in Floydada, Texas until 1958 when they relocated to Lampasas. They were happily married for 56 years. Upon moving to Lampasas Joyce joined the workforce for Powell's Supply and People's National Bank where she retired in 1989. Joyce was a dedicated and long-time member of First Baptist Church of Lampasas. She enjoyed sewing and collecting coins and Elvis Presley memorabilia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Mack Chaney, Mabel Eugenia Bridges Chaney; sisters, Salina Cullene Chaney, Norma Gene Chaney Caylor; husband, Judson Taylor (J.T.) Spears, and son, John Thomas Spears. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Janis Diane Spears of Burnet, Texas; grandchildren, Laurie Hamilton, Angela Whithers, Jason Hamilton, Sloan Spears, William Spears, Randee Hamilton, Steven Spears, and nine great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Lampasas Assisted Living and Kindred Hospice.
