Josephine Azuba Hammonds, 86 of Lometa, TX died Tuesday morning April 9, 2019 at City Hospital at White Rock in Dallas, TX. She was born June 5, 1932 in Lometa to parents O.L. Davis and Viola Maxwell Davis. Josephine was raised in Lometa and after graduating from high school attended and graduated from North Texas State University. She taught school in many places; Irving, Richardson, Broken Arrow, Ok, Copperas Cove and Lometa. She also earned her Master’s degree from Southern Methodist University. Josephine was a member of Lometa United Methodist Church, where she served as church instrumentalist for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Daughter’s of the American Revolution. She is survived by children; Thomas C. Hammonds III, Jo Anne Burris and Mary Ellen Wilson Grandchildren; Carrie Johnson, Kyle Burris, Thomas C. Hammonds IV, Lyric Hammonds, Austin Hammonds, Jack Wilson Great-grandchildren; Cade Johnson, Caroline Johnson, Thomas C. Hammonds V, Maggie Mae Hammonds, Alex Hammonds and Emma Burris Brother, O.L. Davis Jr. Nephews; Luke Davis, Matthew Davis and Lynn Davis Niece, Laurie Jo Davis Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, by twin brother, John L. Davis Funeral service will be Friday April 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Lometa United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel.
