Johnnie Earl Tackett, Jr. age 90 of Copperas Cove, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Temple.

Funeral services with Masonic Rites and Full Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dan Wooldridge officiating.  Visitation with the family will follow services, until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Tackett was born on May 17, 1927 in Dublin, Texas to the late Johnnie Earl Tackett, Sr. and Grace J. Faulkner.  He grew up and went to school in Dublin and before completing high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 18.  While enlisted in the Army, he graduated high school in Lawton, Oklahoma.  He married Helen Gregory on February 20, 1946.  After serving in WWII, he was discharged and remained in the Army Reserve.  He was called up to active duty during the Korean War and Berlin Crisis.  He was called up again to serve in the Vietnam War and remained active duty until his retirement as a 1st Sgt. stationed at Ft. Hood  in 1992. He soon became a civil service employee until his retirement.  He was a member and past president of the Copperas Cove Radio Club and Radio Assistance Team.  He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shrine.  He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Harker Heights and American Legion in Gatesville.  He was also a member of Coryell Community Church in Gatesville.

He was preceded in death by a son, John E. Tackett, III in 2002 and two grandchildren, Michelle Stafford and Justin Tackett and two brothers, Rudy and Justin Tackett.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Tackett; four daughters, Linda Young and husband, Vaughn, Mary White and husband, Gary, Debra Rogers, Pamela K. Bryant; sons, Michael Tackett and wife Brooke, Kenneth Tackett and wife, Sandy; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607
