John Anthony Taylor, 83, passed away on December 7, 2024, at his residence in Lampasas with loving family at his side. After an extended illness, John peacefully made his way to a place of black cows with white faces, where the sun always shines, and his tractor always starts. Services for John will be held on Monday, December 16, at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel Lampasas. Visitation will be from 11 am to 12 pm with services beginning at noon, burial will follow at Tobey Cemetery in Oakalla.
John was born on September 13, 1941, in Ding Dong, Texas to James Andrew (Jimmy) Taylor and Hazel Boales Taylor. The family made their way to Briggs, TX where John enjoyed his youth hunting and fishing with his friends and his brother Max. He loved playing basketball and graduated from Briggs High School where he was voted Most Handsome his senior year. John attended Tarleton State University for one year before returning home to Briggs. He had met Ida Mae Reavis, the love of his life, and they were married on October 21, 1961, and were happily married for 46 years. They eventually settled in Lampasas and had a son, Randy, and a daughter, Kim. John worked as a farmer and a rancher. He was also a long-time businessman and was a partner with Joe Herrmann at Herrmann Feed and Supply.
John retired from the feed store in 1997 and was finally able to become a full-time farmer and rancher. He loved being at the farm and always had projects to keep him busy. Nothing made him happier than when his grandson John II came to the farm to learn from him and help him with the daily operations for many years. John will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, but he was always willing to make time for a beer and telling a story to friends and family. He always loved the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were lifelong passions. He loved his family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ida, his parents, Jimmy and Hazel Taylor, and a brother who he dearly missed, Max Taylor.
Survivors include Carol Littell, who he couldn't believe he was so incredibly lucky to spend 13 wonderful years with; his son, Randy Taylor, and wife Gayle; his daughter, Kim Johnson, and husband Chris; his grandchildren, Marcus Perkins, Rochelle Taylor, John Taylor II and wife Jennifer, Cooper Johnson, Hartley Johnson, Kyle Johnson and wife Lindsay, Kolby Johnson and Alexa Terry, Tanner Johnson and Kylie Witcher; great-grandchildren, Clayton Dougherty and wife Tyler, MaKenzie, Paisley, and Hunter Taylor, Daniel, Nora and Paul Johnson and great-great-granddaughter, Kendall Slattery and numerous nieces and nephews.
