1st Sgt. John Patterson, (USA Ret.), 83, of Kempner passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in Harker Heights. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Clear Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Cecil Rice and Rev. Thomas Edwards officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Noon. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday at Scott's Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
John was born on April 21, 1929 in Crowder, Mississippi to the late Albert and Luna Chisolm Patterson. John attended school in Crowder, Mississippi. He joined the United States Air Force in 1947, where he served for two years. In 1952, he joined the United States Army and began his military career. He served our country for over 20 years before retiring as a First Sergeant. John was very proud of his career and his country. After his retirement, he founded Centex Data in Lampasas, which he operated until 1991. He married Georgia (Jo) Hodges in May of 1948 and they are members of Clear Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Rudolph Patterson.
John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Georgia (Jo) Patterson; children, John Patterson, Jr. and wife, Diana, Richard Patterson and wife, Dallas, and Karen Patterson; siblings, Willie Dean Ford, Margie Latham, Miriam Permenter, Bud Patterson, and Stella Robertson; grandchildren, Clark Patterson and Holly Brooks; and 3 great grandchildren.
