Joan Harris

Joan L. Harris, age 89, of Kempner, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020, in Lampasas. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 10, 2020, at Smith Cemetery in Kempner.

Joan was born on March 20, 1930, in Snyder County, PA to the late James and Gladys Rothermel Maurer. She graduated from high school in Sunbury, PA. From 1949 to 1956, she worked at Arlington Hall, which was the precursor to the National Security Agency, as a code breaker during the Cold War. Joan also worked for Arizona State University for 17 years as a graduate admission advisor. She retired from Houston Baptist University as an advisor in the early 1990's. She was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church for a number of years. Joan was a lover of gospel music, puzzles, animals and ice cream.

Joan was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Harris; sister, Ferne Berry and her parents.

Joan is survived by her nephew, Duane Berry of Kempner and a niece, Allison Berry of Baltimore, MD.
