Jarvis J. Herbst, 81, of Lampasas, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at his residence in Adamsville, TX. Graveside Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Townsen Cemetery in Adamsville with Pastor Charles McKamie from King Baptist Church officiating. Jarvis was born on July 29, 1939 in Lubbock, Texas to Elbert Jardon and Virginia Bob Stratton Herbst. He grew up in Idalou, Texas. He and his sister, Donna Kay, were raised on the families cotton farm. Jarvis developed a love for ranching, working summers on his Uncle's ranch in New Mexico and the AJ Ranch in the panhandle. He graduated from Idalou High School in 1957 and, after graduation joined the family cotton business. He married Judy Lynn Foster on January 4, 1963 and they were happily married for 55 years before her passing in October 2019. In 1966 they bought the Mill Creek Ranch in Adamsville, Texas, where they began living their dream raising children, cows, horses and a few sheep and goats. They also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, hunting arrowheads and of course taking care of the ranch. Jarvis was a director of the Texas Federal Land Bank for 36 years, retiring in 2011. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the First Baptist Church of Idalou. He also attended the Adamsville Baptist Church with his family. Jarvis was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Herbst, Virginia Roush; step-father, Jimmy Roush and wife, Judy Foster Herbst. Survivors: Daughter, Denise Herbst Fluitt; son, Dennis Herbst (Sharon), John Herbst (Jill); grandsons, Bryan Fluitt (Kim), Brandon Fluitt (Sarah), Brice Fluitt (Amber), Brady Fluitt (Jordan), Jordan Herbst (Jordy), Jack Herbst; granddaughters, Makayla Fluitt, Jessie Herbst, Hannah Herbst; great-grandchildren, Braylee, Gunner, Sam, Garrett, Cora Fluitt and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to caregivers Katie Robinson and Charlotte Bear and Solaris Hospice employees, Rachel and Vella.
