James Stansbury

James (Jim) Stansbury, 95, of Escondido, CA passed away in Copperas Cove, TX on October 25, 2019, surrounded by his family. The public is welcome to attend graveside services for the WWII veteran at 2 PM, Thursday, November 14, 2019, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Jim was born on July 8, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Leo and Florence (Randolph) Stansbury. He was drafted into the United States Army at 18 after finishing High School. He served as a combat medic in France with the 103rd Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

Jim owned and eventually retired from his commercial appraising business. In retirement, Jim devoted some time to his fascination with Corvair cars. He owned and fixed many of these vehicles. Jim even served for several years as the President of the San Diego Corvair Club and made many lifetime friends that he leaves behind.

Jim leaves behind his partner of 40 yrs, Caroline White; his children, Larry Stansbury, Susan Stansbury, Elana Crane, Janine Stamer, Annette Lowrie, Nicole Stansbury, Mia Stansbury, and his beloved dog child, Telly. Also Carol's children, Trent, Dana, Steve, and Markel. He is also survived by his sisters, Laurie, Carolyn and his brother Elgin and he’s survived by 19 Grandchildren

Special thanks from Jim go to his partner Caroline White for taking good care of him, grandson, Nate who shared his passion for cars. Mark Lowrie who loved Jim unconditionally, Ben and Allie  for loving him, Markel for making his Urn,

Dana for being the tech guru, Trent for fixing things, Jenna for taking such good care of Grandpa. and helping fill out the VA paperwork. His Corvair friends who came to his farewell party.

Annie who flew in from Portland to help him and Telly move to Texas., Nicole, his youngest who let him know, she loved him, his friend Joe who called him on his last day, Janine, Keith and Anthony who held his hand in his final moments.

Jim Stated, "Life is not meant to be a journey to the grave in a new and pretty body. But rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out, and loudly proclaiming, WOW, What a ride!"
