Imogene "Jeanie" Hairston

Imogene "Jeanie" Hairston, age 90, a longtime resident of Lampasas, Texas, passed away peacefully with her family by her side early Friday, September 3, 2020, in Gainesville, Texas. Visitation will be held at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas, Texas, Thursday, September 10, 2020, between the hours of 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery Friday, September 11, 2020, at 10:00 am. Jeanie was born September 12, 1929, in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, to William M. and Rilla Stewart. At a very young age, her family moved to Hugo, Oklahoma, where she graduated with honors in 1948. After an early career as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Jeanie moved to Rockdale, Texas, where she would meet her future husband, Robert Charles Hairston, in 1953. In April of 1955, Jeanie went on to marry Robert and was later blessed with a baby boy, Randall Charles Hairston, in 1957. In 1961, her new family of three moved to Lampasas after Robert accepted the opportunity to take over the local Central Freight warehouse. After helping Robert build a foundation at Central Freight, she would move on to her 22-year career serving as the secretary to the principal, Mr. Bill Hammet, for the Lampasas School District, retiring in 1992. Jeanie was a dedicated homemaker. She loved cooking, creating recipes, sewing, and gardening. Jeanie kept a clean home in and out, including the annual upkeep of house paint and a carefully manicured lawn. She was a very active member of the 1st street Church of Christ, where she enjoyed her time studying her bible and participating in the ladies' bible class. Jeanie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Hairston; Her parents, William and Rilla Stewart; her sister, Tommie Lee Summers and her husband, Sam Summers of Rockdale, Texas; One Brother, Billy Stewart, and his wife Carolyn of Dallas, Texas. Survived by her son, Randall Charles Hairston, and his wife Melinda Hairston of Bastrop, Texas. Six grandsons, Jordan Brown Hairston and wife Lauren Hairston of Gainesville, Texas; Cameron Cole Hairston and wife Krystal Hairston of Gainesville, Texas; Hunter William Hairston and wife Bernadette Hairston of San Antonio, Texas; Connor Charles Hairston of Bastrop, Texas; Jeremy Tucker and wife Susie Tucker of Bastrop, Texas, and Scott Tucker of Bastrop, Texas. One great-grandson Bailey Lee Hairston and one great-granddaughter Lily Marie Hairston of Gainesville, Texas. One Brother, Charles Harris Stewart, and his wife Shirley Stewart of Humble, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
