Herta Crawford

Herta Crawford, 85, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S FM 116, Copperas Cove, TX 76522, with burial following at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation will be held an hour prior. The funeral service for Herta Crawford will be live-streamed on the Viss Family Funeral Home Facebook page.

Herta was born on August 25, 1936, in Lampertheim, Germany to Heinrich and Pauline Woerner. Herta was a resilient woman and provided for her daughter alone until she met John in 1972. On September 9, 1973, Herta married John Frederick Crawford in El Paso, Texas. The family stayed in El Paso for just a short time before moving to Germany in support of John’s career in the U.S. Army and then soon welcomed their son, Christopher. After three years in Germany, Herta and her family returned to Fort Hood, Texas until John retired and made their home in Copperas Cove, Texas.

Herta was involved in her church community and would always make baked goods for the yearly Sausage Fest. Herta had a green thumb, loved her plants, and her dogs. She enjoyed crocheting and would make dresses for dolls and blankets to give to her family and friends.

Herta is proceded in death by her parents, Heinrich and Pauline Woerner; brothers, Hermann Woerner and Geustel.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, John Frederick Crawford; children, Paula and husband, Ken and Christopher; grandchildren, Cory, Cody, Taryn, Sarah, and Kenzie; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Skylar, and Evelyn; sisters, Hilde and Christal; and brother, Heintz.
