Birdie Faye Dixon Higgins, 92, went home to be with The Lord on May 27th, 2022 at her home in Comfort, TX.
She was born on March 28th, 1930 on a farm near Owl Creek in the small community called Seattle in Coryell County. Her parents were Alvis Dixon and Mary Vida (Tippit) Dixon.
A funeral service will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel (201 East 3rd Street; Lampasas, TX) at 10am on Friday, June 3rd, 2022, with an 8am to 10am visitation prior to the service. The burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Faye grew up in The Owl Creek Community and graduated from Flat High School in 1949. After high school, she moved to Temple, TX where she worked for Bell Telephone as a telephone operator.
She met and married John Tom Higgins Jr. of Lampasas on November 17th, 1951. They were married for 40 years and raised three children: John Tom Higgins III (Tommy), Karla Higgins Lancaster, and Abbie Higgins Crenwelge.
Faye was a bookkeeper and worked in John Tom’s law office until he retired. One of her greatest accomplishments (according to her) was to be the first female elected to the Lampasas School Board and then the first female School Board President. However, many would argue that her true calling was in being a friend to all those who knew her. She never missed a birthday, prom, graduation, marriage or a reason to bake a fresh peach cobbler or pecan pie. Her kindness and generosity blessed all and she never met a stranger.
Faye is survived by her two daughters: Karla Higgins Lancaster of Lampasas and Abbie Crenwelge of Comfort and husband Dale. Her brothers, James Dixon and wife Allene of Gatesville, Tx and Jackie Dixon and wife Jeanette of Gatesville, TX and a sister, Pat Palmer and husband James of River Forrest, IL. Her grandchildren: Alandra Lancaster- Teodorescu and her husband Danny Teodorescu of San Antonio, TX; Brandon Lancaster and his wife Patty and great granddaughter Mia of San Antonio, TX; Cameron Crenwelge of Houston, TX, and Peyton Crenwelge of Dallas, TX.
She is preceded in death by her husband John Tom Higgins Jr. of Lampasas, Tx, her son, John Tom Higgins III, MD of Lampasas, Tx, her brother Joe Dixon of Temple, TX, and her parents Alvis and Vida Dixon of Gatesville, TX.
