Esther Chavis

Esther Maxile Chavis, left this world at the young age of 95 in Mount Vernon, Virginia on December 6, 2021, to join her family in heaven.

Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, January 7, 2022, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with military honors.

Esther was born on December 4, 1926, to Wilbert Maxile Sr. and Hopie Turner Maxile in Gueydan, Louisiana. She married James C. Chavis on October 7, 1956, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Esther served her county in the United States Air Force as a 1 st  Lt. in the medical field as a Registered Nurse. She continued helping numerous communities after her time in the service in the same field. She has lived all over the world throughout her military career and as a wife of an active-duty military spouse.

She volunteered and served God throughout her life. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Esther is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James C. Chavis; son, James C. Chavis II; granddaughter, Jacqueline Yvonne Chavis-Wei; and her siblings, Beatrice M. Trainer, Mable Maxile, Myrtle Maxile, Felton Maxile Sr, Viola M. Simon, Wilber Maxile Jr, Helen M Williams Broussard, and Allen Davies Maxile.

Esther is survived by her daughter-in-law, Regina D. Chavis; grandson, James C. Chavis III; and a host of nieces and nephews.
