Ellen Reiser

Ellen C. Reiser, age 65, of Copperas Cove passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017. Funeral services will be at 12 Noon on Friday, December 15, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church, 704 ML King Jr. Dr, Copperas Cove, TX 76522 with Rev. Naomi Ingrim officiating. It will be followed by a graveside service at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Killeen.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday at Scott's Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.

Ellen Katherine Cavanaugh was born January 26, 1952, to the late Robert and Elsie Cavanaugh in Tarrytown, NY.  Ellen spent her childhood in Peekskill, NY, the oldest of 4 siblings.  She graduated from Lakeland High School in June 1970.  Following graduation, she attended Phelps Memorial Hospital of Practical Nursing.

Ellen met Frank Reiser in 1971 while he was a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY.  On March 30, 1974, the couple was married at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Peekskill.

Ellen accompanied Frank on a variety of military assignments while he was in the Army.  The couple went to Ft. Hood, TX, Fulda, Germany, Ft. Knox, KY, Selfridge ANG Base, MI.  During this time, Ellen was very active as an Army spouse, participating in many activities both on and off post.  She received an award for her work at the Patton Museum at Ft. Knox.

Frank and Ellen settled in Copperas Cove, TX after Frank’s retirement from the Army at Ft. Hood in 1992.  While in Copperas Cove, Ellen worked in several businesses as a cashier, including Holiday Cleaners and Revco Drug Center.  In 1995, she began work as a cashier at HEB Food Store and continued working there until her retirement in 2011.

Ellen was active in the Copperas Cove Community. She did substitute teaching with CCISD and was also an active member of the Friends of the Library.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Copperas Cove where she participated in many church activities.  She served as a ruling elder in the church and was the church’s Accounting Manager for some time.

Ellen and Frank were married 43 wonderful years.  She is survived by her husband, Frank Reiser of Copperas Cove; her three brothers and their families, Robert Cavanaugh and wife, Claudia of Alexandria, VA, Arthur Cavanaugh and wife, Betsy of Lynchburg, VA, Joseph Cavanaugh and wife, Linda of Utica, NY, and also by an adopted family, Phillip & Yvonne Imergoot and their children of Kempner, TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are graciously requested to be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 704 ML King Jr. Dr, Copperas Cove, TX 76522.
